Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Furthur ? (As in what's up here?)

http://www.archive.org/details/furthur2010-06-25.digigal.vp88.flac16

I still cannot figure this one out. They played Not Fade Away two times during this show! It's not like they played half and finished up at the end, or anything I can figure to tie the two together. The song is played as a stand alone opener and stand alone encore. The song is two separate versions, each complete in their own right. I just do not understand why, with such a vast library to choose from, they would do the same song two times in one show. I really am befuddled by this. You could listen to one then the other and say it's two songs, there is nothing to tie them together.
Sammy Hagar once played "Marching to Mars" as an opener and closer (I was listening to a live radio broadcast) and I thought it was the utmost in lack of creativity I had heard by an act live. Playing the same song two times in one night is for the Sinatras or Vegas acts or nostalgia acts of the world. Am I missing something here?

I once saw Jeff Healey open for someone and he played the same song twice. He admitted it was for a video and they needed different camera angles.

They're getting old. They forgot.

Sorry, what did I just say?

Haha that's funny, and weird.

I haven't been listening to much Furthur, some of it's ok but I just don't really get too into it (though I am probably going to see them in a week or two), but I think I'm gonna have to listen to this one, just because of it's weirdness.

Back in the day ( 75 ?) my friends saw ZZ Top ( Areosmith opened for them !) at the Forum, and they did "La Grange" as an encore, then came back and did it again, and again ... 5 times !

Isn't the entire Eliminator album and anything they produced after that really the same song? The reason I bring it up is that I heard "double back" in the grocery store today and I swear it was sharp dressed man, or sleeping bag or Gimme all your lovin or...

Not a huge fan but I do like the pre-Eliminator , blues-rock stuff . I don't begrudge them making all that money the made with that stuff , but it is too slick to me . Give me "The Mexican Blackbird", "Arrested for Driving While Blind", and , yes "La Grange" any day .
I do like Billy Gibbons contribution to the "Queen Bee Bar-B-Q" tapes ...

Hey, not going to deny it. I was in high school when that album came out and I watched the videos all the time. I looked up "Double back" and totally forgot it was for one of the Back to the Future Movies.

Well that is interesting. On that note, if there are any of you from the St. Louis area going to Dark Star this Friday and/or Furthur on 11/11 please let me know and we can enjoy a beverage and some music!
